From Reverence Comes Remembrance

Byron and Grant - 2004-05-24 - 300x373Since today is the 6th anniversary of Byron’s death, I decided that I would challenge myself to launch a radical redesign of the website.

With that goal in mind, welcome to version 2.0 of our website.  I’ve created a new theme for the latest release, entitled “Reverence”.  It features broad gradients, quiet lighting and soft shadows to create a feeling of reverence within the person viewing the site.  Worked into the design are elements of reflection, like the water effect on the American flag header image.  I will be filling this space with photos, videos and stories of Byron in the coming weeks, so spread the word on facebook and twitter, and come back often.

With the changes to the look and feel of the site, as well as new functionality and a solid social media presence, my goal is to direct the Sgt. Byron W. Norwood Scholarship website in a way that inspires remembrance of an American hero that we all love and miss.  The photo on the right was the last taken of us together.

November 13th each year is often about reflecting on my life before I lost my brother, imagining what he was thinking before he went into battle that day, and re-living the moment when my father called to tell me what had happened.  But with a fun and challenging project to provide some distraction, today has also been about starting something new.

It is my hope that our foundation’s work to raise money in Byron’s name for the purpose of helping high school students get to college appropriately reflects the memory we have of him.

Enjoy everything that is new, and please consider donating to our foundation.

Sincerely,
Grant K Norwood
